Hi again,
Aside from Eric who seems to have some problems with his 50cc the rest of us seem to be well satisfied with this brand. From what I understand the TOMOS brand scooters are made in I believe Slovakia which is in central Europe. But some one said that the engines are from China. If someone knows for sure I would love to hear from you. RON

Post Re: Tomos Scooters
So I bought a Tomos Nitro 50cc, and I needed info so I found out a lot in my journey. The engine is Chinese. Its a GY6 139QMB from a manufacturer based out of Taiwan with factories in China. Many companies make this type engine which was originally produce by Honda. It was a good engine and as with most things the Chinese market started to make them.

The Nitro 50 and 150 are accually made by SYM Scooters. They are one of if not the best scooter makes of the Chinese type. Tomos is reported as stating that since they are well known in the moped community they wanted a differing body style than the othes made by SYM, E-Ton etc. What Tomos ended up with was a well made, easily maintained scooter that you can always find a part for, even if it is through Chinese production.

I have alway been a fan of Honda and Vespa scooters but the cost for the old Honda Elite was a pain to my wallet, and the lesser Chineses bike really were not worth the money. So I got this 2007 Tomos Nitro 50cc recently, Used, and have been really happy with it. I have 5200 miles on it with out any rebuilds and it still runs like just after break in.

Hope this helps. I also have the GY6 139QMB manual showing all the ins and outs of the engine in PDF format if any one needs it.

Happy scooting people.

I tried sending the maunal through mail, but it wasn't cooperating with me. SO just go to the following like and download a copy. If that doen't work out I will try a bit harder to solve the e-mail attachment file size problems.

Feel free to ask if you have anymore questions. I might have an answer.

MOTO,
Thank you, the web site worked. I downloaded the file and printed all 120 pages into a notebook.

Ron

Do you have a wiring diagram?

YEP, I sure do. Its a little hard to see though.

Here is a link to a service manual for a similar scooter with the same engine (this manual covers the body, and the electric model. it also has the Horse power and torq ratings for the engine you will see its just a model specific version of the same engine manual Good read though)

www.oregonvintage.com/gy6_50cc.pdf

And here is some links to websites with wiring diagrams as well. Any difference would really be in the head light and tail light wiring, but the overall is almost identicle.

http://www.scootusa.com/wiring_diagram_ ... with_4.htm

http://www.chinese-parts-canada.com/wire_diagram.html

The second covers both 4 and 5 wire CDI units

Hope this helps, glad the engine manual link worked for you.
